New: Stories the camera phone reads aloud
With VintageCam Ultimate you start a fairy tale remotely, listen in beforehand and see afterwards whether your child was calmer.
Stories are now part of VintageCam Ultimate. You pick a fairy tale in the viewer and the camera phone tells it quietly through its speaker, even when you are not at home. Ultimate can be added to any plan and is included in the 14-day trial.
Fourteen stories to start with
The library includes Brothers Grimm classics such as The Frog Prince, The Star Money and The Elves and the Shoemaker, each in a gentle version without frights. There are also lesser-known tales that suit bedtime especially well, for example The Queen Bee, The Moon and The Golden Key. Hans Christian Andersen's Sandman, Ole Luk-Oie, is retold freely. There are also original bedtime stories in fairy-tale style: about the little owl who did not want to sleep, the miller and his star mill, the turtle who carried the moon and the dwarfs' bed. Each story lasts four to nine minutes, and each one shows where it comes from. More stories are to follow.
Listen first, then have it read aloud
Listening in beforehand is new too. With one tap you play any story on your own phone, jump to any position, wind 15 seconds forwards or back and see the running time. That way you know what your child will hear before you send it off. Listening only happens on your device, the camera phone stays silent.
Your own recordings
You can also upload your own recordings as MP3, M4A or OGG, for example a story you told yourself, and play them like a fairy tale. More in Upload your own bedtime stories.
Timer, playlist and evaluation
On the camera phone you can pause, skip to the next story and change the volume. Several stories run as a playlist, on request in a loop. The sleep timer fades the story out quietly after the chosen time. Afterwards VintageCam compares noise and movement in the ten minutes before the story with the ten minutes after. How to read the result is explained in Did the story help?.
What you should know
The voice is an AI voice and is labelled as such. The recordings were produced beforehand and stored on the server; nothing is sent to a speech service at run time. While a story plays, the noise alarm is paused because the phone would otherwise hear itself. The motion alarm stays on. The camera app has to be up to date, otherwise the camera phone does not respond. The evaluation is a guide and not a medical statement. More details are on the Stories page.
