Upload your own bedtime stories: grandma's voice instead of AI

With VintageCam Ultimate you can also play stories and songs you recorded yourself. How to record, which formats work and what to watch for.

The fairy tales in VintageCam are read by an AI voice. That is practical, but for many children the familiar voice of mum, dad or the grandparents is unbeatable. That is why VintageCam Ultimate now lets you upload your own recordings and have them played on the camera phone.

What you can upload

MP3, M4A and OGG are allowed, each up to 30 MB, which is a good half hour at normal speech quality. Each household has room for ten files and 150 MB in total. The format is recognised from the content of the file, not its name. A file that pretends to be an MP3 but is not will be rejected.

How to record

The voice recorder or voice memo app on your phone is enough. Speak in a quiet room, with your mouth about a hand's width from the microphone, and leave a few seconds of silence at the start and end. If you want more, record on a computer with a program such as Audacity and export as MP3. Phones often save voice recordings as M4A, which works without conversion. A story you tell yourself does not have to be perfect: children usually enjoy stumbles and laughter.

Upload and play

In the viewer you open the Stories section and upload the file under “My recordings”, optionally with your own title. After that it behaves like a fairy tale: you listen in beforehand and jump to any position, start it on the camera phone, add it to the playlist and see the evaluation once your child has fallen asleep. Renaming and deleting are possible at any time.

Privacy and rights

Your recordings are stored encrypted with your household, are not analysed and are not passed on. If you delete the recording or the account, it is gone. Please only upload recordings you hold the rights to: a commercial audiobook does not count. And ask everyone whose voice can be heard whether they agree, especially with children and guests. More about the stories is on the Stories page.
