One app, several roles
After signing in you choose what the device should be: Camera (this device monitors), Viewer (watch from here), Protect this phone (route and theft protection) or Alarm system (backpack, car, bike). The same account applies to all roles.
What you need
The app runs on Android 8 and newer. The camera and the guard need an Android phone. The viewer also runs in the browser: on a computer, on the iPhone and on any other device. So you do not even need the app to watch and listen.
Alerts in the browser and on the iPhone
The viewer has a Push to phone switch. Once allowed, you get alerts as notifications even when VintageCam is closed and the screen is locked. This works in Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Samsung Internet on Android and on the computer. On the iPhone you need iOS 16.4 or newer and must first add VintageCam to the home screen: in Safari tap “Share”, choose “Add to Home Screen” and open the app from there. With “Send test” you see straight away whether it works. Android shows the photo for the alert in the notification, the iPhone only shows it in the app.
Installation in three steps
- Download and open the APK.
- If Android asks: allow installation from this source.
- Start the app, sign in and choose the role.
The app is still in its test phase and is therefore not in the Play Store. When you first open the file, Android asks whether you want to allow installation from this source; that is normal for apps outside the store.
So that the camera runs reliably
Switch off battery optimisation for the app and connect the phone to its charging cable. Some manufacturers still end background services; in that case an exception in the power-saving settings helps. After a restart the camera has to be started by hand once, while phone protection and alarm system start again by themselves.
For Android 8 and newer. The viewer also runs in the browser without the app.
The download is not available right now.
